Every couple of years Disney comes out with a new “Princess” that captures the imagination of little girls around the globe. And every decade they come out with a character that also captures the heart and soul of those little girl’s parents. For many people, myself included, that character is Moana.

A young, brave  and spirited soul who is the master (or mistress) of her own destiny. Moana was not waiting for a Prince to ‘save her’, rather, she was the savior she was seeking- a message I want to instill in my daughter and little girls everywhere.

When Sunrise invited me to interview the young girl who played this tenacious character, I jumped at the chance and found Auli’i Cravalho to be just as charismatic and sweet as I’d hoped.

Here’s an except from that interview first airing on Sunrise where Auli’i shares how a girl with no formal singing or acting training went on to win the role of a lifetime.

I hope you enjoy!
